Description
The DDS GYXTW-SM is an outdoor armored single-mode fiber optic cable designed for reliable optical communication in telecommunications, FTTH/FTTx, CCTV, LAN, access and outdoor backbone networks.
The cable uses a central gel-filled PBT loose tube containing the optical fibers. A corrugated steel tape armor provides mechanical and rodent protection, while two parallel steel wires provide additional tensile strength. The entire construction is protected by a UV-resistant black PE/MDPE outer jacket.
The central loose-tube construction provides a compact and lightweight cable design while maintaining good mechanical and environmental performance.
Cable Construction
The DDS GYXTW-SM cable consists of the following layers:
1. Optical Fibers
Single-mode G.652D optical fibers provide high-performance optical transmission.
2. Central Loose Tube
A hydrolysis-resistant PBT loose tube contains the optical fibers and is filled with thixotropic water-blocking gel.
3. Water Blocking
The filling compound prevents longitudinal water penetration and protects the optical fibers against moisture.
4. Corrugated Steel Tape Armor
A corrugated steel tape layer provides additional mechanical protection and improved resistance against crushing, impact and rodents.
5. Parallel Steel Wires
Two parallel steel wires positioned on opposite sides of the cable provide tensile reinforcement.
6. Outer Jacket
A black UV-resistant PE/MDPE outer sheath protects the cable against outdoor environmental conditions.
This construction is characteristic of GYXTW cables.

Fiber Color Identification
The standard 12-color sequence can be used for fiber identification:
| Fiber No. | Color |
|---|---|
| 1 | Blue |
| 2 | Orange |
| 3 | Green |
| 4 | Brown |
| 5 | Slate / Gray |
| 6 | White |

| 10 | Violet |
| 11 | Rose / Pink |
| 12 | Aqua |
For 4-, 8- and 12-core versions, the corresponding number of fibers is used. For the 24-core version, identification is normally achieved using a second identification sequence/marking system as specified by the manufacturer.
Mechanical Specifications
| Parameter | 4 Core | 8 Core | 12 Core | 24 Core |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Typical Cable OD | ~7.7–8.5 mm | ~7.9–8.5 mm | ~8.5–9.0 mm | ~8.5–11.2 mm |
| Short-Term Tensile | 1500 N | 1500 N | 1500 N | 1500 N |
| Long-Term Tensile | 600 N | 600 N | 600 N | 600 N |
| Short-Term Crush | 1000 N/100 mm | 1000 N/100 mm | 1000 N/100 mm | 1000 N/100 mm |
| Long-Term Crush | 300 N/100 mm | 300 N/100 mm | 300 N/100 mm | 300 N/100 mm |
| Static Bending Radius | ≥10 × OD | ≥10 × OD | ≥10 × OD | ≥10 × OD |
| Dynamic Bending Radius | ≥20 × OD | ≥20 × OD | ≥20 × OD | ≥20 × OD |
Actual cable diameter varies according to the loose-tube diameter, steel tape thickness, steel-wire diameter and jacket design. Published GYXTW constructions show approximately 7.7–8.5 mm for 4/8 cores and approximately 8.5–9.0 mm or higher for 12/24 cores.
Typical Cable Dimensions
For a DDS product catalogue, I recommend using the following nominal ranges rather than presenting an unnecessarily precise dimension before the factory production drawing is finalized:
| Part Number | Fiber Count | Typical OD Range |
|---|---|---|
| DFC-GYXTW-SM-4C | 4 | 7.7–8.5 mm |
| DFC-GYXTW-SM-8C | 8 | 7.9–8.5 mm |
| DFC-GYXTW-SM-12C | 12 | 8.5–9.0 mm |
| DFC-GYXTW-SM-24C | 24 | 9.0–11.2 mm |
Different GYXTW manufacturers use different tube and jacket dimensions, so the final DDS value should be taken from the actual production specification.
Typical Cable Weight
| Fiber Count | Typical Weight Range |
|---|---|
| 4 Core | ~57–80 kg/km |
| 8 Core | ~59–90 kg/km |
| 12 Core | ~65–105 kg/km |
| 24 Core | ~80–130 kg/km |
Cable weight depends on the steel tape, steel-wire dimensions and jacket thickness. Published GYXTW examples range from approximately 63 kg/km to 95 kg/km depending on construction, while other armored designs are heavier.
Tensile and Crush Performance
Tensile Strength
Short-Term: 1500 N
Long-Term: 600 N
